What does the 5-year workmanship guarantee cover?

It covers our work: the installation itself, the fixing method, the set-out, the trims and the finish. It does not cover damage, misuse, moisture from a source outside our control such as a plumbing leak or a failed subfloor vent, or normal wear. It sits on top of the manufacturer’s product warranty, not instead of it.

What are the NSW statutory warranties?

Under the Home Building Act 1989 (NSW), residential building work carries statutory warranties of six years for major defects and two years for all other defects, running from completion. If a defect becomes apparent in the final six months of the period, you have an additional six months from that point to commence proceedings. These warranties cannot be excluded, waived or limited by contract.

What does the manufacturer’s warranty cover?

Product warranties cover the flooring itself — structural integrity and wear layer performance — and commonly run 20 to 25 years residential, or limited lifetime structural on some ranges. They are subject to the supplier’s own terms, are usually non-transferable, and generally require the product to have been installed to the manufacturer’s documented specification. Which is one reason we follow it.

Do I get a written contract?

Yes. In NSW a written contract is required for residential building work over $5,000 including GST, along with a copy of the Consumer Building Guide, and the deposit is capped at 10 per cent by law. For work over $20,000 a full home building contract applies. We work to those requirements as a matter of course, not on request.
